Question:

My crutches are giving me blisters on my hands?

Is there any way to prevent this or to make them heal faster? I have to go back to school on wednesday so I need to be able to get around on the crutches.

I've tried tieing socks to the handles of the crutches to make them softer but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I've tried covering the blisters in plasters but they seem to take ages to heal.

All suggestions appreciated. x

  1. You can pad the grips with a foam rubber and wear gloves.

There are different types of gloves that should help cushion your hands.

Use biking gloves or neoprene padded gloves. In a short time your hands will be toughened so they will not blister.

  2. gloves. leather gloves. ones that people in wheelchairs use or bikers use. use lotion daily as well.

  3. I used a pair of fluffy bed socks, and my friend is using bandages (the ones you use for sprains) on her crutches at the moment.

  4. Your crutches should have come with foam rubber covers on the hand grips.  They make life a lot more pleasant, and not expensive at Walgreen's.  You might want to try gloves such as bicycle gloves until your blisters heal.  I will answer emails if you have other problems.

  5. You could try wearing gloves and also try not to use the crutches when you don't have to so like don't randomly walk around with the just rest and your hands will heal faster.

  6. It won't heal them, but it will prevent them if you wear a nice pair of leather palmed bicycle gloves.  I use them with my wheelchair to prevent blisters.  I think the only way you could heal them would be to give them a rest which might prove to be difficult if you want to move around.  Hope you get off the crutches soon.
