My dad caught a lovebird!?

Hey,

My dad caught a lovebird a couple of days ago, and I was wondering if there was anything that we could do to get it acclimated, and if there was anything that we should know.

keep it warm.. they really don't do well in cold temperatures..

they can be pretty picky, so I would look for a site that specifies in lovebirds and start getting to know the billion things there is to know about them  ;)

put it in a cage, name it Bobby the romantic bird and feed it loves and kisses

I think you might want to let it go, I know it's cool but your bird will probably like it better if it was free since it has been already. I would just buy one though catching one is cool I really think you should let it free ( not to hurt you or your feelings if that can happen I just want the best for the little guy/girl, you can't blame me can you?)

What you should know is lovebirds are very agressive towards other species of animals and birds. SO DO NOT PUT THME IN A CAGE WITH A BUDGIE - you will find a dead budgie in the morning.

Secondly, they do get lonely easily so another lovebird would be good.

Thirdly, lovebirds are expensive so you should take to the vet to get it scanned for internal chipping (or external).

I'm not sure of the costs...

You should try to locate the owner for the first thing. If you have decided to keep someone's

lost bird you should go purchase a cheap book so you will know what you are dealing with. There isn't enough space on this site to explain to you how to take care of a love bird.

Most news papers will give a free listing for lost and found items.

I understand you are excited to have found a bird. Just think about how the person who has lost their little bird. I could have just been turned lose. Maybe someone was tired of it? Place the ad and have a clear conscience.  Just the fact that your father was able to catch it says that, one it is sick or nearly dead from lack of food or because it was a tamed bird and the bird through hunger was pushed to be near people.
