Question:

My dad died in barbados he left a will

the family wont let me see the will or send me a copy they want me go over there to collect money that they say is in the will for but i'm not sure what money is mine as i hav'nt seen the will is there a way that i can see the will from here or get a copy and how do i retrieve the money from barbados to england

  1. Im not a lawyer but i don't think that could be done. You would have to come to Barbados to get it sorted i believe. You would need a lawyer who's versatile with both country laws and which is some what difficult to come across if u wanted it settle from the uk.

    But im not a lawyer so i'm subject to correction.


  2. Sorry for your loss.

    From what I know, they just can't read the will themselves and do as they see fit.  It has to be read by a notary or lawyer, and that person is bound by law to dispense who is owed what, and to the right people.  If you have any doubts, check with the government on who to reach for their registrar's office.

  3. I do not believe that you would be able to see the will since it would probably be in the hands of the executor.  If you can not get here,  I believe you can get a lawyer to act on your behalf but obviously you would have to pay for that service.  If the money is willed to you, no one else can claim it.  Look in the telephone directory for an attorney-at-law and ask for advice.
