im 14 btw so excuse my "childish" grammar

so my dad got offered a job to measure hurricanes and stuff like that idk exactly what the job is called and all that

and he said he's gonna take the job, but im kinda worried because like dont you have to study the hurricanes like RIGHT under them? cant you possibly get sucked up or something?

so yeah can anybody tell me more about this job, like the importance of it, the positives and negatives, the risks, etc. id very much appreciate it :))

  1. I seriously doubt that he is going anywhere near a hurricane; going into one doesn't tell you a h**l of a lot other than it's very very windy.

He'll be sat at a computer reading satellite and ground feeds of weather activity to analyse the potential strength, duration and direction of hurricanes.

Of course, what you should really do is go talk to your dad, I think he'd appreciate your interest.

  2. my neighbor was a hurricane hunter, and he was fine.  Its normal to be worried but rest assured that the team is highly trained in flying through these storms and safety comes first.  you should be proud of him,  the hurricane hunters are awesome, coming from the gulf coast i can say they are really admired and praised for their work here.

  3. Is your dad a meteorologist? Or a scientist? Because otherwise, this seems like a weird job offer. And if he is trained in this, he should know the safety precautions in place.

Also...this is really his problem, not yours. I can understand why you're concerned. And, it would be good to let him know you're worried -- maybe he could tell you more about the job, so you won't worry so much. But usually, it's the adults that should take care of the kids, not the other way around. So I'm a little concerned here.

There's just a chance that this is not a legitimate job offer, and nothing will come of it, anyway, So hang in there, and try not to worry too much.

PS -- Not to be mean, but if you're old enough to know your grammar is childish, you're old enough to fix it. ;-D   We really knew you weren't ditzy.
