  1. I am assuming since your question is in this section, you must have kids.  A nice gift would be something personalized with your kids pictures or all the grandchildren.  I know my father was big on wearing his hats.  I had one made that had a pic of my kids on it and it said #1 Pop-Pop.

  2. I would throw a party and invite people he hasn;t seen in years. Get friends and family to help you contact people. Keep it a secret.

  3. 1. Viagra

    2. Socks

    3. Fuzzy pajamas

    4. Red sports car

    5. Golf clubs

    6. Leather-bound copy(s) of his favorite novels

    7. Metamucil

    8. Case o' beer

  4. I really  wonder about all of you and your cute answers, what do you think life is a 2 way street? Well here is the point, one way and it's going by very fast, you might have to eat your words sooner than you think.

Time with your father well spend, make him proud of you the best gift, and on a more practical note cook him his favourite meal, with a good bottle of wine and you !

  5. Nothing too expensive.  He's at a point where material things are of lesser importance.  Take him out somewhere.

  6. Take him out for his birthday to something he really likes and spend time with him.  Maybe a meal, maybe ice cream, maybe a walk in the park.  Just make it something he really loves to do

  7. Your time. As the old riddle goes, what starts life on four legs, grows to two, then ends on three? A human - crawls, walks, uses a cane. An old person may SEEM like a "baby," but you'll be old one day too.

  8. Why is this question in toddler and preschool?  What does he like, for example my father likes good wine so I usually send him a bottle of the best rated current wine.  You know your father better than anyone out here does so you have to go with something he is interested in.

  9. Viagra? Depends? A Cane?

You know, something practical and funny.

  10. I agree with the previous poster.....your time is the most precious.  Give it generously. That means more than any tangible item.

  11. My father just turned 84 and he pretty much has everything he needs, so I gave him my time.  Older people really enjoy just having someone around them to talk with or play games or even watch a movie

  12. Find out exactly what year he was born, where he was born, then go and look up his schools and find pictures of them, those then ...and ...now pics, maybe  put them in the card, so he can see how things have changed and reflect on it, also maybe look up the home he grew up in and find pictures of it...maybe even go one step further and make a small photo album of special places in his life??? wow cool idea, home town... and important places there (town hall schools etc) he would LOVE to see that stuff again...it is all very thoughful stuff along with a nice card.

This gift only takes time, not much money but it will out do anything you can buy him at Wal-mart!

  13. Make him look back to his achievements:

Spend some time trimming a very nice video of the best moments of his life with his wife, his daughters, his sons,..etc. Include in this video some scenes in which members of the family are addressing him and wishing him happy birthday. There is no better for an 80 years old to celeberate than looking back at a life of joy and achievements.

Remember, YOU are the best gift he would want.

  14. make him  scrap book (:

i make scrap books of like how he grew up, how his grandchildren grew up......

i have a really cool picture thing with milions of pics of my fam on this really nice peice of wood that sorta is shaped like the usa.   haha but ya try a scrapbook they work awesome.

  15. I feel the best present for a father is maybe a video or even pictures of you and him as you were growing up or even a talking photo frame with the best photo of him and your self,

you can record a message like maybe expressing your love you have for him, even though you may think that he knows it already  but when your not around him you really don't know how much me misses you or just hearing your voice .... well that is what I would do for my father if he was around that age I know when a father is around that age he can not enjoy other things as much as he would like to due to age and the change of the human body, I do agree that not all are the same but for the most part that's how life tends to take a toll on our human body but also remember our spirit will always remain young...

  16. I see that some old folks homes get visited by dogs all the time.... they seems to get so much out of the love that dogs can give....perhaps a dog from the local shelter? That way you give TWO living beings the best gift they can possibly get.......

Just a thought......best wishes for your Dad....

  17. When my dad was getting old, I got him a pair of athletic shoes with velcro fasteners instead of laces.  He really liked them.  Another thing, if he still reads, might get a subscription to a magazine you think he'd like, or his hometown newspaper.

  18. My Dad is around that age.  For his birthday this year I got him some wooden model airplanes to build.  Gives him something to do since he can't get around all that well anymore.

  19. i know u should make a birthday cake so big and the thing when he gets home when the doors open then thing will fall on him the sparkle thing ui guess thats all i think heheh hoped i helped u

  20. My grandpa just turned 80.  What my mom did for him was she went into the area where he stores all his old junk, and found this old clock from when he was little, and she had it professionally restored.  He really liked it.

  21. Pocket crosswords or sudoku.

  22. Think about how he grew up and what he likes to do.

Maybe some old music. A music CD.

If you really want to spoil him.

Try getting him an old record player with records.

    Music. Music Mooooozic.

  23. I recently got my 81 year old father-in law shirts( he likes comical tee's ) and cocktails since he chose to celebrate at a bar. what he enjoyed most was just being with family and friends. so give him love and lots of it.

  24. Wow 80! I guess it depends on what kind of shape he is in.

At 80 if he doesn't have it or hasn't had it at some time he probably doesn't need or want it.

I would just stick with a nice card and maybe take him somewhere he likes if he travels ok.

  25. whats he like to do? sports magazine, what? my grandpa likes growing tomatoes and stuff so my mom got him seeds to plant things with and some shirts for fathers day.

but wrong section =/. hope i helped. if its hard to shop for him, just ask? my grandpa also likes cooking dinner and stuff so my mom got him a recipe book once. and hes handicapped; he cant walk much or go outside and he can still do this. he also makes things in the garage out of wood and paints the,. he's really really good at it and sells them, so we got him a book with some ideas. he makes tables and chairs for kids and decorations for christmas and halloween, etc

  26. a gold pocket watch from 1928. the watch would be as old. gold pocket watches are cheap because the demand is low. you get a lot for the money, less then $50 bucks. in his era, pocket watches were very common. a nostalgic gift he'll love. all guys like things mechanical.

  27. Your time. Let him reminisce with you. Have a little coffee and his favorite dessert if these are things he enjoys.

  28. the news paper from the day he was born

  29. a hooker. he'd like that. sorry...you gave me nothing to work with . i would have given you a more practical idea had you given me more info...

  30. The most valuable thing to these older people is your time. Bring all of your children or grandchildren (even if they are grown) and spend a day or two with him, just hanging out. If he is able you could go to somewhere, like a play, concert, restaurant. He will appreciate this more than any tangible gift.

  31. Does he have any favorite movies he'd like to see again?  What about music, what does he like?
