My dad is retired, should he switch to VONAGE for long distance and local calls?

If no, why not?

If yes, then what all will he need to do, buy, know?

He has the internet, broadband, I don't know through whom.

    go to magicjack.com  absolutely the best and cheaper than skype

  3. if he does not need a phone in an emergency, then magic jack, vontage, skype are all OK.

    If he loses power, and cannot turn the computer on or the internet access is down, then he has no phone.

    the PSTN is powered by huge batteries, so if you lose power, you will always have phones.

  4. If he doesnt need 911 service look into Skype. He can buy a local phone number with skype and pay $3 a month with unlimited US and Canada calling. There are phones that he can use that look like real phones so that he is not making calls thru his computer too.
