My dad isn't acting the same, how should I talk to him?

Just a couple days ago my parents got into this fight. After wards, my sister has been rejecting my dad. He, being told that he wasn't welcome on my sister and her husband's property, hasn't been acting the same. He isn't able to come over to their house anymore because of the fight and now she just ignores him. This really hurt him because... well, it was his daughter that he's raised his whole life.

Now he doesn't act the same for the time being; He'll crack stupid jokes that my mom and I don't really find funny, like just pointless jokes and we'll laugh at them sometimes and he's been in a really happy mood but like a false happy mood. He doesn't act as confident and I believe his self-esteem has been lowered or that he's insecure, which, because of the high tension, I suppose not to act the same would be normal, but I don't know how to react to him. He seems normal at times... just not the same.

So how should I act or talk back to him? I don't want to hurt or turn him down anymore than he already has been but I can't seem to relate to him, I want him to be normal again. What should I do?

  1. Tell him you love him and give him a hug.  He is trying to keep a brave face on for you and your mom so you will know all is okay.  It does not work, but it's something dad's do, thinking they are protecting us.  The tension will go down in time and your dad will return to normal.
