My dad just bought a 14' 1'' boat and we are new to this. any help?

So my dad just bought this 14' 1'' boat to go fishing and we don't know the rules to use it with out getting a fine. we already transfered the boat and trailer to my dads name. but we don't know what the rules are. thank

Also, make sure you have the right safety equipment on board; life jackets, flares, lights, etc. If you're stopped by the DEC they will check to make sure you have this.

You have to registrer your boat just like you'd register your car.  The DMV can help you get your plates and the CL numbers for the boat.  You might need a pass from whatever state park you may be boating in.
