My dad left me a car that needs $1250 worth of work what should i do?

I have the money but with insurance and upkeep its gonna be more. I also have another car that needs minor work too. should I spend the money or save it? I know my dad would be proud of me if I save it but i know he'll be proud if I save the money for emergiencies too. I just dont know. the car has been garaged and is nice ive always wanted to drive it. what would you do keep the money for a rainy day or... fix the car that you might really need one day.?

  1. Fix up whichever car needs less work and that you think will be more reliable.  Keep the other car in the garage for your rainy day.  You may have enough money to fix it up next month, you never know.  Then you could sell one of them, perhaps.

Is your dad deceased?  I would doubt that your dad left you the car (that had been garaged for some time) with the intention that you MUST fix it and drive it.  He left it to you to with it whatever you wish.

    Good luck.

  2. If it isn't worth the investment because it is a gas hog or too old and too many miles to mess with you can sell it for scrap metal at the Iron and Metal yard I think yo can get about $9 per 100 pounds. Use the money get an economical car or scooter.

  3. I suggest that you decide which car you would rather drive, and repair that one, and donate the other to charity for the income tax deduction. That way you have a good car to drive without the expense of two.

  4. I would fix it up. I wouldn't save the money. You said you like the car, and since your dad left it to you, he obviously thought you would want to keep it.

  5. My grandfather gave me his car just before he died. The day I got it the brake's failed and I nearly drove into peak hour traffic. We would have ben killed but I yanked the handbrake on.

The car needs a total restoration so it's just sitting in the backyard getting worse. It needs at least $5000 spent on it, if I do all the work myself. More otherwise.

I could never bring myself to get rid of it. Too many memories and besides that it is a classic 1969 HT Holden.

If I were you I would keep it and do it up slowly when you have spare cash.

I will pass my grandfathers car onto my children when I'm old enough.

  6. Definitely fix the car. You'll have created wealth and opportunity, BOTH.

  7. if you already have transportation ,i would keep  the money an work on it a little here an theyre your already stressed out an you havent even got started on any of it so just make a spare time project of it in the end ,youll be more satisfied an save money too

  8. don't get caught up in vehicles for sentimental reasons,i made the

same mistake and the car nickel and dimed me to death.

i put over $5000 into a car that was worth $1500,every time i turned around something else broke.spent more time under the car than behind the wheel.

take the car to a trusted mechanic and have them look it over for

a small fee, they will tell you if it is worth the expense of fixing or a money pit.
