Would a greencard be alright for citizenship proof and a driver license be an identiy proof??

I already tried reading the info from CBP.gov but i dont understand what are these things

U.S. or Canadian birth certificate issued by a federal, state, provincial, county, territory or municipal authority

U.S. Consular report of birth abroad

U.S. Certificate of Naturalization

U.S. Certificate of Citizenship

U.S. Citizen Identification Card

Driver’s license or identification card issued by a federal, state, provincial, county, territory, or municipal authority

  1. A lot of people on here are severely misinformed about the documentation requirements for US permanent residents visiting Canada. Like US citizens, US permanent residents are EXEMPT from the passport requirement IF TRAVELLING BY LAND. The permanent resident card (green card) is enough, as US permanent residents are VISA-EXEMPT from travel to Canada, regardless of their country of citizenship. Please, do a little research before answering questions.

  2. to go into canada isn't really hard.  coming back to america is the problem.

the green card should be ok to use to come back into the US

  3. A green card only establishes the proof of legal residence in the US -- it is not proof of citizenship.  Since he doesn't have a passport, he would need (as is clearly pointed out above) proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, and his driver's license to cross the border via land.

Also, depending upon his citizenship, he may also need a visa, which would then negate his chances for crossing without a passport.
