My dad passed away and i am trying to find out what life insurance policy he had and where had it at?

i couldn't find any paper work but he said he had it... the problem is that i am about to lose everything and i need to know if there is a way to find out this information so please help me

  1. Only his personal records would tell you.  Many people allow policies to lapse.


  2. If you have access to his checking account records, you could look through there and see if you find any payments to and insurance company.  

    Did he have a will?  Did he have an attorney?  Did he have a safe deposit box?  There are so many places the policy could be, if it does exist.  It will still take time to get the payout though.  You may need to look into other options to tide you over until this gets resolved.

Andrea did a good job suggesting places to look for a policy or for clues.  The most common place that people have life insurance is through their work, either coverage issued automatically as part of their benefits package or as supplementary coverage that they buy through payroll deductions.  Take a look there, too.
