  1. First of all you want to start by filing the FAFSA, since most scholarships want to know if you have need.

Secondly go to your school fin aid office or check their website to see if they have any disability scholarships. Disability not meaning necessarily that you are, but that something has happened that has effected your life. This would be an instance that would work. If you had to get two jobs to help your parents pay for things, someone got into an accident, loss of a family member... these are all considered for CERTAIN disability scholarhsips. Ofcourse, you have to look into these and make sure you are actually a candidate, but most have specific criteria that most people just assume.

  2. Make sure you fill out the FAFSA to be considered for grants from the federal government, your state and your college.  Do this especially if your dad was the primary wage earner since income is a big part of determining eligibility.  Since your household income will be significantly reduced you may qualify for quite a bit of aid.  The application can be found at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.  You should also check out scholarship information at http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/.
