  1. The MDX is one of those SUV's that show how to do it right. It is built with Quality, Maintains a High Resale Value, Safe, Does Well on Gas,  and Looks Very Good.

But, due to the MDX's High Resale Value, a 2006 in your price range will have to have one with over 30,000 Miles. But, there are some more options that you can get newer with a lower mileage.

    Here are some other Options:

    1) 2006-2008 Toyota Rav4. The Rav4 is actually quite fast for it's class and you can actually get one new. I highly recommend the V6 for more power, but it will take a toll on your fuel economy.

    Rav4 Website:

    2) 2004-2006 Lexus RX330. The RX is smaller than the MDX, but it has a better Navigation System, and is more reliable. It is built with the finest of materials and looks very good even 4 Years later!

Here is the Website. It is for the 2009, but other than new door handles, it is completely the same:

    http://www.lexus.com/models/RX/

    3) 2003-2006 Infiniti FX35. This is one mean car. It has the exhaust note of an exotic, the utility of a midsize SUV, and the styling of a concept car. It remains very reliable and pretty gas savvy.

Since it has bee redesigned, here is a picture of it:

  2. Tell your dad that he can't be THAT picky on what kind of car he wants if he only wants to spend $18,000. Check out used car sites on the Internet. You can often sort by price, make, model, colour, etc... Don't get too picky.

  3. the two cars he's looking at drink gas rather rapidly.  a friend just sold an MDX, they averaged 16 mpg over the life of the car.

the toyota 4 runner will be simlar.  remember, these are heavy 4x4 vehicles with powerful motors.

if you need that much size, a minivan will give you 30% better fuel economy and more space.

if a car will work, an 04 ofr 18K will allow any # of cars, altima, accord, camry, milan, malibu... heck, he could get a base malibu new for that...  all of these would do 50-70% better on fuel than the SUV's in question.

  4. Before buying any car check to see what kind of gas it takes, I think the Acura takes premium. Get a car that takes regular and has low MPGs! That should help out and maybe you can get your dirt bike back soon.

  5. get a honda civic 2007, it has terrific milage. 34mpg

  6. go to craigslist.com

  7. Honda makes Acura so I would recommend the Honda Pilot. You can get a 2006 for about $17,000.

  8. there are cheaper cars out there from 2005 and since you seem to be tight on money buy a older version which may cost 5000 less but just not have a aircondinioner

  9. I have an '07 Mercury Milan. It gets 29mpg highway and 21mpg city. It's a very comfortable and smooth riding car, and it has a digital display of how much gas is left (it tells you how many miles until empty) which really comes in handy. I paid about $10,000 more than you are looking to spend, but that was a year ago - you could get one for much less now. (Originally, I was looking at the '06 Milan instead of the '07 and that was $19,000 a year ago).
