Question:

My dads Mitsubishi Colts ignition has seized up,how difficult is it to replace?

His car is a 1989 model. I have tried all the usual things,such as WD40. It has locked up the steering lock. I notice the ignition is held on by some kind of rivets under the cowling cover. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  2. The rivets you can see are actually shear bolts, they are tightened until the heads snap off leaving the stumps you can see. They can be drilled out to release the ignition barrel & steering lock. Some barrels can be removed seperately by driving out a small pin - have a look around the barrel.
