My daugher has a tooth w/ a dead root? Will that become painful, or should I let it fall out on it's own?

The dentist was going to pull it, as she had an abscess w/ it, but the abscess has burst, and she's fine (it was local and pain free)... do I wait for it to fall out, or do I go through w/ having it pulled? (She's five by the way, and it's from her first set of teeth.)

  1. get it pulled, getting yourteeth pulled doesnt usually hurt that much unless its wisdom teeth. But if you keep it in it may start to hurt alot so i would get it pulled.

also i would be happy that its her first set not her secondand that her teeth are not matured yet cuz if they were she woul have to get a root canal!

  2. Well I know that one of my teeth had a dead root and it hurt really badly.

I was about 8 when that happened and it started hurting while we were on vacation. I didn't want to do anything because it hurt so much. I just kept crying. It really hurt!

I would ask your dentist what to do because my tooth hurt really bad when that happened to me.

    Good Luck!!

  3. The abcess is just "quiet" right now and yes if it drains, her pain will lessen.  IT WILL COME BACK!!!  The tooth obviously has active infection and that in itself is dangerous.  There have been a couple of cases (not meaning to scare you) where young patients have died from infection in the mouth.

Have it removed.  I personally, if it were my child, request antibiotics to take prior to the procedure to prevent the infection from getting into her bloodstream.

    Its a serious matter.

  4. I'd seek advice from the dentist about it but I had a friend who had the same issue with one of her adult teeth. It didn't fall out but her nerves died as well so she doesn't feel anything from it, the only thing that happened was it became a little bit discoloured which is hardly noticeable. Although as it is a baby tooth I would assume it will fall out pain free. One thing that may be of concern is that I've heard of decay spreading from an abscess to other teeth.

Hope this helps and good luck to your daughter :)
