  1. If she is a minor, yes. Minor's by law cannot enter into a binding contract, or her own insurance.


  2. This is MY experience:

    I added my daughter to MY policy. She had an (at fault) accident. Even though I was not in the car, and not even in the same COUNTY at the time. we were BOTH sued for half a million dollars.

    Since I have several properties in my name, this was a great concern until the ins. co. settled it for a much lower amount.

    I DID sweat for a time though. It could have turned into a MAJOR loss.

    I advise you to get her on a policy of her own if possible.

In New Jersey, the insurance companies get something from the DMV as people will usually get letters from the insurance companies as soon as a teenager gets a license, even if you haven't notified them. In your case, if you don't add her and she has an accident, it will cost allot more than the $1,200. They might not cover it.
