My daughter's dress code??

My daughter is starting kindergarten this fall and she really likes to wear colorful clothes. I read the school dress code for the school I may be sending her to, and it said no distracting clothes. Alot of the other ones they wear uniforms. It also says no distracting hairstyles, jewelry, ect. She likes to wear little bracelets, too. What exactly do they mean 'distracting?' I want to find a school where she can abide by the rules but still be herself in her pink leopard print vest.

  1. Is she going to school or to a disco?

  2. Pink animal print would be considered distracting.

Look for another school if that is what you want her to wear to school.

She wouldn't fit in there doesn't sound like

  3. The pink leopard vest should be fine. Usually what they mean by distracting would be clothing that displays too much skin (usually stomachs, shoulders and chests), or has inappropriate slogans or even pajamas (yes, I taught 6th grade and we had a few trend setters that thought wearing pjs to school was a good idea) . Hairstyles would be things like neon pink hair color, styles that stray a good way from what is generally acceptable. Jewlery would be like wearing 20 bracelets on one arms to they jangle constantly.

  4. It sounds like your daughter's wardrobe is quite distracting! If you do choose this school just remember that she can still wear her favorite clothes after school, on weekends and to birthday parties, ect....AND....(staying positive)....just think of the money that you will save throughout the year with a uniform type dress code! Ultimately...You, either, should adhere to the school's dress code or find another school.

  5. I pretty sure this may apply to the older students.  Spike bracelets and dog coloars wouldnt be expected.

The distracting clothes probably means things such as no deep fluro colours etc.  As a highschool student it doesnt hurt to bend the rules abit.

  6. I would go to the school and take a tour. Look at what the other kids are wearing. A lot of times the school means she can't come dressed in a Christmas tree costume, nor can she wear 10 dangle bracelets on each arm that make a lot of noise when she moves, her earrings can't light up or be bells, and she can't have a pink Mohawk. Mainly anything over the top and will cause the kids to focus more on that then the lesson.  If it has to be uniform type clothes she can do little things like have a leopard print backpack, cool shoe laces and shoes, the most unique school supplies. Little thing like that still allow her to express her style while keeping in school guide lines.

  7. Let her wear what she wants.I think it means too short or low cut, suggestive clothes. The vest sounds cute.

  8. Basically to me this would mean no jewlery that is flashy, no big jewled bracelets or things like that. Basically it sounds like they want you to send her to school without things of that nature because they can distract the other children. For example, you send her to school with pretty shiney jewlery, of course all the other little girls are going to want to look at it, touch it, ask to try it on. Things like that make it hard for the children to continue to pay attention to the teacher and what she is trying to get them to do. The same applies for flashy clothes.

I used to volunteer at a preschool and I was in high school at the time. Any time I wore a bracelet (even a plain one) we would be sitting on the carpet and all the little girls would want to see it and try it on/play with it. They never paid attention to the teacher.

It just makes it easier for the children to pay attention to what they are supposed to be doing/learning. Less distractions, the easier it is for the teacher to keep them happy and involved in learning activities. I hope this helps you out. Why not let her dress as pretty as she wants on the weekends? Personally I aggree with the dress code. As long as they arent over doing it. As a parent you want her to be happy, but you also want her to be able to pay attention and learn things without being distracted by all the other girls who like her "pretties".

I hope this helps you to understand the dresscode. Good luck with finding a school :)

  9. They mean nothing that she will be playing with during class time.  Nothing that calls an over amount of attention to her and might make other children jealous.  Children have been known to get into horrible fights over clothing, some kids have been hurt so badly they wind up in hospital and other children have been killed for the brand of sneakers they wear...is THIS what you want for your daughter.  I suggest you stick to school policy rather trying to find a school that comforms to HER.  She will have enough time after school to be "herself".

  10. My daughter loves all of that as well, and I let her wear what she wants most of the time.  I draw the line at jewelry at school though (except for her small stud type earrings).  Jewelry is just something for them to mess around with instead of paying attention.  Send her to school in the leopard vest, I'm sure it's adorable.  I think by distracting they mean things that are too outlandish, and to me, the leopard print isn't.  It also wouldn't hurt to contact the school and ask them for a better description, in case they feel differently than we do about the vest.  :)

  11. call the school see what they meen

  12. she is going to school, not to a party. Save that stuff for the weekend.

  13. Some kindergartens require children to dress in plain colours only, ie: no prints, logos or quotes.  The aim behind this I think is to have kids focus on play and learning rather than what each other is wearing. Why dont you ask your kindy what they mean by this.

  14. girls wears bright flaunty clothes ..thats why we have girls ..to dress them to the hilt! What they mean by distracting is.. no belly shirts ..no tiny mini skirts, no fishnets.lol! nothing with charli mansons face and nothing that plays music
