My daughter's hamster throws his fluff out of his cage piece by piece. Sometimes overnight it might be a pile

Why do you think he does this? He also moves it ( fluff) to different levels and to his wheel. Really wondering why he would throw the stuff out...this is gross, but sometimes he throws some of his poopy pellets out, too...what is up with that?

  1. my large dog I had did that when he was temporarily in an enclosed area....I thought he'd love the padding, etc...some animals or rodents, just like people just have different personalities...they'd rather lay on flat surfaces to be comfy!  That's all!  Sounds like a lot of work for the little guy! Maybe only put a little in there- in the corner

  2. hamsters like to move bedding around.  i think they mainly do it to help make a nest for them to sleep in.  they also like to stash their food in different parts of the cage at times.

  3. they just like to ajust the surounding, all animals do it(just a heads up:fluff can be leathal to hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, ect, try ripped up pieces of toilet paper, it is just as good and safer)

  4. Moving the bedding to different corners of the cage is very normal. Some hamsters also love to put their bedding on the exercise wheel which I think your hamster also seems to be doing.

Hamsters love to dig into their bedding and if you have a wire cage, chances are that you would often see pieces of the bedding along with his p**p flying out of the cage due to the force with which the hamster vigorously burrows into the bedding.

While burrowing into the bedding is normal, if it irritates you to see p**p or bedding flying out of the cage, you can wrap a cardboard or sheet outside the lower part of the cage like a shield to prevent his bedding from coming out. Most cages nowadays like the Habitrail come with a shield included in the cage to prevent this.

  9. He maybe wants to feel comfortable in his environment. Or maybe he didn't like the way you made his cage and wanted it to feel more homely to him. And the poo? maybe he doesnt want it in the cage! they tend to be clean!
