My daughter's kid is over while she's working and he's whining for her?

I think he's a bit of a mummy's boy. Granny nor Grandad can do anything really to comfort him. His mum's been on a business weekend this last weekend and has a lot of work to do today. Her little boy just keeps whining for her all the time and says that she promised to spend some time with him today. I rung her up and she said that she'll spend some time with him tonight.

How do I comfort him in the mean time? And what sort of thing shall I tell her to do with him?

He's 6, nearly 7.

You've probably tried this already, but don't comfort him - do stuff with him.  Take him for a walk, play games with him - that sort of thing.

Get his mind off thinking about mom by taking him to the park or go play catch outside. If you've access to a pool and its warm enough go swimming. Let him pick an appropriate movie to watch or cartoons. Keep him busy doing things.

Do something with him to get his mind off his mother.  C'mon Gramps....you've done this before.  Take him to a park, teach him how to ride a bike, teach him how to catch a ball.  Have him help you plant flowers or something...jeez.

You don't seem happy he's there at all, calling him "my daughter's kid" instead of "my grandson" and he can pick up on that.  

Like others have said, do stuff with him, just out fr a walk around the block or a board game.

You shouldnt TELL her to do anything with him. Thats up to her. But you could take him to the park or something to take his mind off it. You could also get off the computer, as you should be TAKING HIS MIND OFF IT!!! not entertaining yourself. Especially if he is unhappy........

Take his mind off it.  If he is just sitting around pining away for his mom its bound to be a bad situation.

Take him for a walk down to the park, or around town - play a game with him, or do a messy project together.
