Question:

My daughter & I just got contacts today. I'm confused. How do I know that the lenses fit vs. uncomfortable?

Example: My daughter says that she can "feel" the contact in her eye (we both have 1 contact vs. 2), and she can "see" her contact as she looks at objects. Me - They gave me two different types & strength to try. The first seemed comfortable. After a while I really didn't "feel" it. The second pair (today) the strength was great, but every time I blinked, it felt like it was going to pop out. I kept looking in mirror and no air bubble - and this would go on and off through out the day. ALSO, when I moved my eye to right or far left, I could feel the lens. But first pair didn't feel that way. I also have asignatism, slight - and we're putting "regular" contacts in because asignmatism is so slight 1/4"? My daughter is 180? - and she has contacts made for astigma, but I'm wondering if hers is not correct? I'm confused. I don't hear anyone complain about their contacts - heck, we were told that we should be so comfortable, that we need to make sure we don't fall asleep with them in. CAN YOU HELP?? I can't read anywhere on the web - how a contact SHOULD NOT FEEL LIKE. Thank you!!

  1. No your contacts should not feel uncomfortable. Where did you get you contacts? An eye doctor should be able to fit you with contacts that feel comfortable for you. I also wear contacts and have an astigmatism in my right eye, it took me a few different kinds of contacts to find the ones right for me. The first few kinds I tried I could feel the contacts and they felt brittle and made my eyes dry! You should not be able to feel them at all, unless you have been wearing them for a long time or there is something on it.

  2. They shouldn't feel that uncomfortable... when you first put them in, it's alright to 'feel' the contact... but only for a few minutes. If you find that you can still 'feel' them after 10 minutes, you should probably take them out as they are irritating your eye. It should feel like nothing is in your eye. Perhaps your eyes may be dry... try using re wetting drops that are made for your type of lenses. If they still feel uncomfortable after that, take them out and make an appointment with your fitter to get a new pair of trial contacts... it doesn't always work out with the first pair, usually the 2nd pair does it. I hope that helps. =)

  3. The first few days that I wore my contacts I was aware of them, like I could feel them on my eye, but not so much that it annoyed me and then after a few days I couldn't feel a thing. Are you sure you are putting them in the right way? Because when I put mine in the wrong way it feels like I have a shard of glass in my eye - ouch. I would also try putting more solution in your eyes because I know when my eyes are really dry, I can feel my contacts.
