  1. If it's a sink, climb under the cabinet with a channellock.  The sinks trap will have two slip nuts, one at the inlet; one at the discharge.  While holding onto the trap loosen both slip nuts.  You'll be able to remove the trap at this point.  You're going to want to place a small bucket (like a 5quart ice cream bucket) under the trap while you're removing it to catch any spills.  Close the pop-up drain plug in the sink and pour the contents of the trap into the sink.  If the locket was caught by the trap, you've solved your problem.  If it got by the trap, it might be a goner.

  2. If it's PVC, don't use a wrench as it can bust the plastic. Just unscrew the p trap (the U shaped bend, DK why it's called P ) use a wire hanger, then some pipe glue to hold the bond

  3. or try a vacumn (like a shop vac) to draw it and all the water out. However if the vac in not a Wet Dry then don';t try it.

  4. use an adjustable pliers or channelock

  5. open the cabinet and put a bucket under the plastic pipe that hangs down from the drain into a U.

There should be two large nuts holding the pipe in place. Turn them both counterclockwise till they loosen. Then gentley pull the pipe straight down and a gush of water will come out then stop.

Take the p[ipe and turn it upside down and the ring should be in there.

Push it back together and tighten. Then run some water and check for leaks.
