My daughter found an insect. I didn't know what it was. Can someone help?

It was wingless, and it looked like it was a cross between an ant and a wasp. It was about 3/4 to an inch long, and was red and black striped with a little fuzz on it like peach fuzz.

She may have found a female red velvet ant, also known as a "cow killer".  They are wasps despite the name.
