The day after a big storm, my daughter found a nest on the ground. There were two eggs cracked on the ground, but a third had stayed in the nest. She would like to keep the third egg but the cracked ones show that the eggs had started developing. Putting a hole on each end of the surviving egg and blowing it out is therefore not an option. Any ideas how to preserve the egg?

  1. Why not submerge it in a jar filled with oil. IT will be visible to look at as well as protected. just an idea

She wanted to know how to preserve the egg not hatch it! Reading comprehension.

  2. Yes be prepared to feed it a lot though.  if the embryo has indeed survived get a small box fill it with cotten and put it under a light so it will stay warm if the embryo has survived it should hatch.

  3. NO OIL UNLESS YOU ARE EUTHANIZING IT (KILLING IT).  OIL WILL PREVENT THE EXCHANGE OF GAS AND WATER. call you local vet or animal care office for help. the egg needs to be incubated.
