Other than not sleeping in her little house as usual, she was fine. She had bled, maybe from her a**s or v****a? We had her for 3 years but still can't explain all the blood. She was well taken care of; fed, clean and l-o-v-e-d! Nothing in her cage could've hurt her. My daughter is 12 and very devastated.

  1. While it is possible something cut her, that seems unlikely...

(Post taken from another question I answered)

Online I found possible reasons due to bleeding.

Some female hamsters bleed occasionally from the v****a for a day or two infrequently. It is not a menstrual cycle, but it still can happen.

There's a chance he could have an infection, tumor, or wet tail, based on what I've seen online.

If you really want to know, you could take it to a vet to examine it, or perhaps just call a local hamster vet and describe what happened to see if he/she has any suggestions as to what happened.

Hope that helps and I'm sorry about your daughter's loss!.

  2. The average lifespan for a Syrian hamster is 1 1/2-3 years, so yours was quite elderly. They rarely give any signs of impending death.  Yours likely had some sort of body shut down that caused her to hemmorage at the time of death. There is no way to know how old she was when you got her, but if you had her a full three years, that is a very good lifespan. She was obviously well-cared for. Unfortunately, hamsters are just not long-lived pets. I'm sorry for your and your daughter's loss. It's not easy to deal with the loss of a pet, but yours was very old, and it was her time. It was nothing you did.

  3. maybe she bit herself or a bug could of got in and bitten her. or a seed from her food or something else could have gotten stuck in  her mouth or someplace, thats how my hamster started bleeding

  4. chupacabra has struck again

  5. It's possible that something in the cage was sharp, and cut her, and she bled to death. I would not think that her heat could've killed her. I've never heard of something.

Do you have another hamster in there with her? If so, then that hamster might've killed her. If not, I would definitely think something was sharp, that you're unaware of, and Sammy cut herself and bled to death.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

  6. You can tell your daughter from me; Well done, you must have cared for her extremely well. She lived for 3 years, and that's quite rare in a syrian hamster! You must have been doing something right, because she obviously loved you enough to bother to keep herself alive. If she was unhappy, she would just give up. She didn't, and congratulate your daughter, it seems you have given a very lucky hamster a very good life.

If there was nothing in her cage that could have hurt her, then it is possible that she had a hemorrhage. If your daughter had her out the day before, then it's highly unlikely it was wet tail. And you would know if she had diaorrea. Were there any more obvious cuts?

If you haven't buried her, you perhaps should take her to the vets and they could tell you what the source was, but perhaps don't take your daughter, she may get very upset with it all. At 3 years old, you should be very, very proud of yourselves. Wouldn't it be a good thing if all owners lookedafter their animals so well they reached almost twice their expected age? It isn't going to happen, though is it? Except with responsible owners like you.

Tell your daughter this, spoken to her from me: I lost my hamster when I was 12. It is very sad, but you just have to remember that they don't live forever and you have to give them the best life you can when they are here. You do feel better after a while, you just have to realise that you gave them a great life and they are now very happy. he'll be over the rainbw bridge, I like to say, waiting for you. You should be very proud.

I hope it helps your daughter, and hope she feels better soon.
