My daughter had one baby shower by the father's mother out of town?

My daughter lives 260 miles away. The baby girl is 6 weeks old. She is more concerned that her relatives are here to see the baby but they did not participate in the shower when it was out of town. How should I invite them to come but also make them not feel obligated to buy a gift if they don't want to?

  1. my neighbor was really well off when she was pregnant.  my friends mom was so happy to be a grandmother she literally bought everything a baby needs and I mean everything.  So instead of a baby shower my girlfriend had a cook out when the baby was two months old.  this way everyone could spend time with the baby but it was not a shower it was just an old fashion bake macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and hamburger type of cook out with tons of great soul food and instead of a gift when people called and asked what she needed she told them salad or paper plates.

  2. just make it a welcoming party...don't label it a baby shower...just say...baby girl is here! she is 6 mo old and we are having a celebration for all family to meet her...something like that :) Good luck

  3. Well a welcoming party would do the trick a nice family gathering it'll be fun! Good luck (=
