Question:

My daughter has a dry scalp: Cradle Cap?

How common is it for babies to get Cradle Cap. My daughter is 4 months and she has very dry patches on her scalp. Is this considered Cradle Cap? I tried using this glove to massage baby oil in her scalp made for Cradle Cap. I used it 2 times at each bath. It hasn't improved since I began using it. Is there any other tips to help moisturize her scalp? Or will this go away on its own without doing anything?

  1. my doc said put baby oil in her hair; let sit for about an hour; come with a soft toothbrush to loosen; wash hair well and come again while washing with soft toothbrush, and rinse; she looked great, no probs since, although i do use the soft toothbrush on her head with the soap everytime i wash her hair...but haven't seen any more flaky stuff since first time....oh!!

and while she sat around with a head full of oil, i put a little cap on her head to keep it from gettting all over everything :O)

  2. A friend of mine used olive oil on her son who had severe cradle cap and it cleared up after about a week.  Once it's gone, keep using something to keep the skin moisturized or it'll come back.

  3. I've been told that baby oil causes cradle cap.  My daughter had it and all I did was wash her hair and didn't put anything on it.  I was able to lightly comb up the dry scalp and she's been "cap" free since.

  4. Well as far as im concerned it is cradles cap. What i used was a brush ( the kit comes with 2 a hard and soft one) i used the hard one and it helped a lot. You can put some baby oil like 20 minuits before bathing and then just comb slowly after the bath. Slowly within a couple of days or weeks you should see a significant reduction in the dryness.

  5. This product & a comb with a lot of needles works like a charm.

  6. Yes, use mineral oil and a soft toothbrush. It works every time.

  7. Every baby gets cradle cap. Some babies get it worse then others. My son had cradle cap, and I would just use olive oil / baby oil..Leave it on for an hour then take a comb and just comb it out...then I would give the baby a bath, with no soap on their head just too wash the oil and left over cradle cap. It cleared up ina week. Good luck!

  8. Hi, my little one has just had cradle cap herself and she is also 4 months old. Although it is more common in babies a few weeks old, older babies can and do get it.

I was advised to try the following but it took three goes before it worked.

    * Rub a little olive oil into the baby's scalp before bed. Comb the hair with a fine-toothed comb in the morning.

    * When the scales have been removed, wash the baby's hair with a mild baby shampoo.

If the treatment does not work, or if the baby has eczema on the face or body, consult your doctor or a pharmacist for advice.

    I hope this helps.

  9. I just comb it out, it dosen't bug them none.  It just bugs moms!!!  But you can also use a washcloth or soft toothbrush and some mineral oil. Or softly scratch your babies head

  10. My daughter is 4 and has chronic cradle cap that won't go away.  Cradle cap is not dry patches.  It's like a darker than scalp color crust on the scalp.  And it's not a dry crust either.  It is in patches though.  What you are describing sounds more like eczema.    I would check with your pediatrician first, but try coconut oil.  It's not all gross and oily like babyoil, but it is a good moisturizer and has an antifungal quality to it too.  It cleared up the dry rough skin on my youngest daughter (18months).  If you do decide to try it you can usually find some processed stuff at the grocery store, but the good stuff is at heath food stores (Virgin Coconut Oil).
