  1. My sister had the same problem with her multiplication tables.

The following sites have catchy songs and jingles that helped her tremendously!

    http://www.songsforteaching.com/math/mul...

    http://gardenofpraise.com/multi.htm

If those don't work for you, your local school supplies store should sell tapes and CDs with multiplication songs!

Works as well as the "ABC" song!

  2. Kids like the games on

    www.mathplayground.com

  3. I have used several things including Multiplication Rock (part of Schoolhouse Rock) Also, taking each family and work on memorizing the answers in that sequence. Maybe your daughter doesn't understand the concept. So, try having her counting by the number. For example, showing her that she is counting by 3's when she is multiplying.

  4. learn and review in this order

    10

    5

    9

    2

    4

    3

    8

    7

    roll 2 dice, multiply

    make flash cards

    repetition is the key

use blocks and groupign so she sees that 4*2 is half of 8*2

  5. Play tons of games with multiplication... that way she is practicing but she's still enjoying it. My students two favorite multiplication games (2nd and 3rd grade) are dots and times basketball.

Dots is a dice game with 2 players. Player one rolls 2 dice. The first number they roll is the amount of circles they draw, the second number is the number of dots in each circle. Example 3, 5, draw 3 circles, put 5 dots in each circle... count all the dots, and that is the answer to 3X5.  Player 2 checks to make sure the answer is right.... My students would play this for hours if I let them... and pretty soon they don't need to count the dots because they have learned that fact already.

The second, times basketball is a larger group game. Class is divided into 2 teams (could divide family, or friends). Each person of the team gets an equation (I use flash cards) if they get it right, they get to take a shot at the basketball net. Points are kept, 1 point for each right answer, 2 points if you make the shot (each child can get up to 3 points per turn, but most miss the shot...). They love it, they cheer each other on, and they celebrate for each other. Play continues for a predetermined amount of time.

There are sooo many more games out there. Good luck, practice daily and have fun.

  6. I am a special education teacher and deal with memory issues all the time. I find that you use a method that matches your child's interest. Turn them into a song for her to sing. Work with her in writting her song. This way she will have an easier time remembering them because she organized the numbers with words.  It will help if you to help her if you print out the multiplication tables in a chart and discover patterns within the numbers. Does she know what actually multiplying number mean? There are many websites that have free activities that will help. Remember that just memorising the numbers will not help her later, she needs to know what to do with those numbers and where they fit into the scheme of numbers. There is not a quick answer. Just find an activity that she likes and the rest will fall into place. Hope I have helped.

  7. Keep working on it.  Studies have shown that there is a 40% drop between the mathematical abilities of a 4th grader and that of an 8th grader taking algebra.  They've attributed this to not knowing your multiplication facts.

(By the time a student has figured out the answer to the multiplication part of the problem, he/she has forgotten that it involved more steps and writes down the answer to the multiplication problem he/she just worked out).
