  1. Hi,

    Firstly, I think its quite nice of you to help your daughter out with her homework.  My parents always help me out, and I have not grown up to be lazy, but I have grown up to be studious  and know that my parents are supportive in my education feats. ...(i.e Illillillillillinoischick - dont make assumptions).

    Now to your question, an array has rows and columns.

    Lets say someone asks you to draw an array of 5 x 6, (such as your question),

    the first number represents the number of rows (so thats in the vertical direction..you need 5 rows)

    *                 *                   *               *                    *

    the second number refers to how many columns you require, (so thats left to right..you need 6 columns)

    *

    *

    *

    *

    *

    *

    So when you put the two toghether you get...

    *       *         *         *              *

    *       *         *         *              *

    *       *         *         *              *

    *       *         *         *              *

    *       *         *         *              *

    *       *         *         *              *

    If I havent explained it clearly enough, the follwing website might help :)

    I hope this helped, Good luck :)

  2. An array is an orderly grouping or arrangement.  An array of five  times six might be:

                                  .    .

                                      .       (make 6 of these groups of five)

                                  .    .

    Hope you can see the dots as that is the way it is usually done. Sorry this doesn't come through like I typed it.  Just put  the single one in the middle of the two above and below.

  3. Hi there...An array is a rectangular arrangement of objects in equal rows or columns, so if you're asked to draw an array of 5x6 then I guess you could use x's or dots as the objects and have:

    x x x x x x

    x x x x x x

    x x x x x x

    x x x x x x

    x x x x x x

    You could alternatively have an 5x6 array which has 5 columns and 6 rows.

    Hope it helps (^_^)

    p.s. I don't really agree with Illillillillillillinoischick or whatever her name is. I think it's awesome that you've come on here to help your child...After all, we are here to answer questions about maths and dictionaries don't always give the most understandable descriptions when it comes to maths.

  4. Might it be that she has to draw an AREA of 5 X 6 ? Just a thought.

  6. array is a set of rows and columns OR its basically a table

    so draw a table of 5 rows(horizontal )

    and 6 columns(vertical)

  7. So instead of teaching her to get a dictionary and look it up, you're teaching her to get on here and ask?  You should at least teach her to get an on line dictionary and look it up, instead of teaching her to be lazy!  I won't help, because it's not the best for your daughter!
