My daughter has a panasonic video camera that is stuck in safe mode.?

When it is switched on a caption comes up which reads "safe mode" and it will not record, it takes stills.

Is there an easy fix, she says she hasn,t messed with it but she is 18 so who knows.

What model camcorder?

I searched panasonic.com and no relevant hits using "safe mode".

Is it miniDV tape, hard drive or DVD based?

I've repaired allot of Panasonic minidv camcorders and have never seen a safe mode. if you tell me the model i could figure out what might be causing this. only other question is could the tape have been set to save. there is a switch on top of dv tapes that says save/rec. if the tape is set to save you can't record over it.
