Well she just had her first drops but in about 2 or 3 hours ago, her eyes seem redder right now but she has been crying. But one weird thing kinda scared me, she had one of those little boogers in the side of her eye and i went to wipe it out and a long string of mucus ( about a centimeter long) came out with what looked like a little blood vessel in it. Is that normal...or what? And we had been putting allergy relief eye drops in her eyes to help with the redness and itching in her eyes before she went to the doctor, can we still use that with the medicine? Thanks so much everyone!

  1. I would not put anything in her eyes except what the doctor ordered! You could ruin her eyes by putting other drops in her eyes along with the medicine. I would only use the medicine as ordered by your doctor. Give the medicine time to work.

  2. Mucus and strings are normal for pink eye.Sometimes they can be pink or red in color if her eyes are relaly irritated.  IT IS gross huh? You can usually use the drops at the same time you just need to wait 10-15 minutes between them.  But, call the doctor tomorrow just to make sure. She might be having a little bit of discomfort at first with the drops, some of them burn and irritate a bit at first. Put the drops in your pocket for a few minutes before you put them in so that they are warm at body temp and it might help. Cold drops or room temp drops can irritate more than body temp ones. Just be careful becuase they are relaly really contageous and you will need to wash anything that comes in contact with her or her eyes. You do not want to get it! But really, call the doctor tomorrow and see what they say. I bet ist starts getting better by then though. Good luck!

  3. Hello

                        Yes, it's normal to have

the mucus in your eye, when

you have pink eye. I would

only use the medicine from the

                doctor. Make sure she doesn't

rub her eyes. If she does she

could have it in both eyes. Don't

let anyone use her wash cloths or

                towels.

  4. Because pink eye is an infection you may notice a few strange things coming out of the eye. Remember to wash your hands and hers each time you touch her eyes and keep her pillowcase clean.

If you are concerned about using the medication, there are 2 great substitutes: tea and contact solution.

For the tea: steep 2 tea bags and when cooled enough to touch, place on each eye for 10 minutes.  Tea contains tannic acid and can help releive itching, swelling and infection.  Do this several times a day, it can't hurt her to do this and it is natural.

For the contact solution:  we have used cleaning solution because it is used to disinffect the contacts from fungi and other micro organisms, while being safe for eye-contact.  We even have used it on livestock.

These 2 alternatives should not burn like the medications do and usually clean it up quicker than the meds as well.  If the infection pursues and/or your child gets a fever or reacts to whatever you are using return to your Dr.

    Hope that this helps

    Adieu!

  5. It's your precious little girl's eyes.  Call the doctor's office who saw her and there should be someone on call who can answer your questions.  You could also take your daughter with you to the pharmacist and ask them if it's OK to mix the two meds.

  6. that mucus stuff is normal. the prescription drops will kill the infection and the redness will clear up on its own. the allergy eye relief is unnecessary. pink eye stings bad is gooey and itchy so once the infection is done, the crying and redness will go too. be sure to keep everybody's hands washed. it is highly contagious. if she touches her eyes then a doorknob, then you touch that door k**b and then touch your eyes you'll get the pink eye within a day.
