birds while pregnant? Also, is safe for the baby to be around the birds? I've heard that there is something in the birds p**p that's not good for either and could cause the baby to have allergies? Is this true or should I just call the Doc and find out first hand? Yes, I've made my son & his wife aware of this question to be asked at her next visit.

  1. It's OK for her to be around birds. Pregnant women aren't nearly as fragile as most people seem to think they are.

  2. Keeping a healthy bird as a pet shouldn't be a problem, but realize that some birds can transmit infections to humans. It's a good idea to take your bird into the vet for an examination before — or when — you become pregnant. If you keep birds and become pregnant:

Let your health care provider know about your pets.

Get the birds examined by a veterinarian.

Wash your hands thoroughly with hot water after handling a bird or      its cage.

Avoid changing the bird cage. Ask someone else to do it (someone who is not pregnant).
