rountinal visit with her orthopedic surgeon. The problem with her is she still can not walk on her own. She walks around the house just fine but she uses the walls, furniture, cabnets, etc. to help her walk. She can stand up on her own without help. Anyway, we went and seen her doctor and he believes she may be afraid to walk because the cut off line for walking with her condition is 18 months. Now we are going to see a Neurologist just in case. Does anyone know what type of problem she may have or are there other children out there whom have walked at a later time? She walks in a way that I believe to be fine but if we try to let go she spins around real fast and grabs us. If anyone has some suggestions in order to let her feel more comfortable with letting go of our pinkies then please let me know. Thank you!

  1. this is how my daughter walked before she learned how to walk.  she didnt have any problems, but your daughter might have just been delayed due to the condition, i mean she is right on the 18 month mark, and she is showing the begining steps of walking.

  2. I don't know anyone that has gone through this. So, I can't offer too much comfort.

However, I can provided some ideas to help you daughter build her confidence:

try, giving her one finger/hand to hold onto, when walking.

Hold her under the arms (when you are sitting down) and let her take a few steps. You can loosen your grip, and she will still be able to feel your hands, which will give her comfort that she wont fall.

Stand a small distance apart from another person (like daddy), and see if your daughter will walk back and forth between the two of you. You can encourage her by saying "Come here!" and "You can do it!" or by having her favorite toy for her to come get.

Some signs she is very close to walking:

When she can stand up without holding onto anything and will stand by herself, without holding onto anything.

I hope all goes well, with the testing. You daughter is showing signs of wanting to walk on her own. I'm hopeful that she just need to be her confident.
