  1. My husbands cousin is the same way and i have often wondered the same thing.  She is 9 and an only child.  I think that maybe she has a hard time making friends because she doesnt know how to act around other kids.  Maybe you could have a little party at your house and invite some of the neighbor kids over to play.  Invite there parents too, heck, make a day of it!  It may take awhile for her to come around though.  My husbands cousin acts really shy around the rest of the kids in the family too until she has been with them for awhile.  I hope this helps.

  2. Shes looking up to you, wanting to see what you do to do the same.

  3. Talk to her, see if she even wants to go outside.  perhaps, kids are teasing her, or she simply does not like the other kids in the neighborhood.

I've always just preferred to be alone.  Since childhood, I just am happiest when I am alone.  It's my personality, and I wouldn;'t change it.  Ask her if she enjoys it, and what would make her hapy.

  4. I would make sure no one is picking on her and that she feels safe.  Go outside with her.  See what is going on.  It could just be she wants more attention from you.

  5. Is she an only child? She might just have a hard time making friends or there are other issues going on in with the neighborhood kids... maybe they make fun of her.
