needs to come in for another weight check. Last thursday she was 9 lbs yesterday she weighed the same. I've been telling him that she's been spitting up a lot but he says that it's normal. He thinks that it may be my milk supply, seeing as though I am breastfeeding her exclusively. I do happen to have a thyroid disorder but it has been at a normal level and hasn't caused any problems. What can I do if it is my milk supply to make more?

  1. One thing you need to check is what growth chart he's using. The growth charts that a lot of doctors use in the US and Canada were made based mostly on babies that were fed formula. If you're exclusively breastfeeding (good for you, by the way!) you should check out the growth charts that were just created by the World Health Organization and see how she measures up on those ones. They were created using babies that were exclusively breastfed. Many doctors are recommending supplementation for babies that are actually just normal breastfed babies.

If there IS a problem with your milk supply the main thing for you to do first is to drink lots and lots of water and get as much rest as you can. There are also some herbs and medicines that you could take that can help. You might want to check out if there is a lactation consultant in your area. Try the La Leche League.
