I need some suggestions for this. The wedding is going to be at 6 p.m. I was thinking about fried chicken or something of that sort.

  1. Good for you for planning ahead! Food is one of the most important things at a wedding, so go the extra mile. Whatever your budget is, try to kick it up a notch and make the most of it!

Im not sure what your crowd is like. But fried chicken is greasy and messy, not wedding food in my opinion. Talk to your daughter about her visions for the menu.

  2. Check with several caterers in your area. Many do wedding buffets that will allow you to choose 2 entrees. If you have specific requests like fried chicken most will accomidate. Chicken would be good with some potatoes and veggies, salad, and rolls- YUM! Sounds good! You may want to go with an additional choice in case you have people that don't like eating with their hands/ or dark meat. But it's your daughters wedding- get lots of choices together for her and let her and her fiancee pick.

  3. While fried chicken a crowd pleaser it can be messy and (as another pointed out) may be a bit casual, depending on the formality of the wedding.

Even if you are considering cooking the food yourself, check out different caterers and see what they offer (and how much they charge). That will help you get some ideas as to what others are serving at weddings. You might also find that a caterer can do evertyhing for just a little bit more than you could if you did it all yourself, once you factor in the cost of everything you'll need to buy or rent to serve the meal.

  4. I don't know if I would do fried chicken - I think that baked chicken or maybe stuffed chicken would be better for a wedding.

You can serve the chicken with some mashed potato's, roasted veggies, rice, green salad, rolls, etc.

  5. Your daughter should decide on the food after she decides on the formality of the wedding and takes into account the likes and dislikes of her fiance as well as herself.

Not sure why you are taking this over at this point. ;-)

  6. Just my opinion: Fried chicken is going to make an awful mess of people's nice clothes, especially the wedding party. Did a caterer actually suggest this (I'd hire another caterer)?
