Will she be safe? I wish I knew people there, who could watch over her. She is 20 and a sophomore in college. She has loved Ireland ever since she watched The Queit Man as a little girl.

  1. Ireland offers very few hazards to visitors, which is the reason for its risk rating of 2. The sectarian "troubles" that have wracked neighboring Northern Ireland have rarely spilled over the border in recent years, and a growing economy has contributed to a relatively low crime rate, political stability and a general sense of calm. Exercise commonsense precautions, but most visits should be trouble free.

    Personal Safety:

Although Ireland is generally one of the safest European countries to visit, in Dublin and other cities, there is a rising crime rate. It is not safe to leave belongings in cars in plain view, nor is it safe to wander around unknown parts of the larger cities alone at night. It is best to park cars in recognized car parks with attendants. Often times if you are parking somewhere that is not safe, a local will stop and tell you. Dubliners are justifiably proud of their city and abhor the actions of a minority who target tourists.

  2. Ireland's fine. What part? Just be vigilant like you would anywhere else. I'm from Ireland. You and her have no need to worry. Don't know what the statistics are but I don't need to know them. I have lived there all my life until recently. I'm sure she'll have a wonderful time. Feel free to contact me if you require any other information.

  3. i thnk if she doesn't walk the streets alone at night and stick to the well lit areas, she'll be fine. This is if you are staying in the major cities. If she is going to a town or village (like in the quiet man), she will have no problems at all. most towns i go to, love the tourists, and will make her felle really welcome

  4. I agree with previous posters. Is she going for a semester in Trinity or UCD, is she staying on campus, what area will she be staying in ? Living with other students ?  I presume it is Dublin that you are talking about. The best advice is the same that you would give someone going to New York, London, Paris or rome for a semester. She'll have a ball !
