  1. 4x - 9 = 7x + 12.

    an easy step for beginning algebra that makes it easy is to make one side 0 by subtracting one side over. this is not essential, but makes it simpler. here is step 2:

    4x - 7x - 9 + 12 = 0.

    which simplifies to

    -3x + 3 = 0

    now put the variable(s) and integers on separate sides.

    3=3x

    its pretty obvious what the answer is now. but later it won't be that easy. divide the equation by a number multiplying x, and multiply a fraction where x is the numerator.

  2. the first answer is wrong! dont learn from it!

    Add 9 to twelve which gives you a positive 21.  SO your equation is 4x=7x + 21

    Then subtract 7X from 4x which give you -3x.  Your equation then is

    -3X=21.  Divide 21 by -3 whch gives you -7

  3. 4x-9=7x+12

    4x-9(+9)=7x+12+(9)

    isolate 4x by adding 9 to both sides of the equation...

    4x=7x+21

    4x-(7x)=7x-(7x)+21

    isolate 21 by subtracting 7x from both sides

    -3x/(-3)=21/(-3)

    divide both sides by -3

    x= -7

  4. Isolate the X variable.

    Add 9 to either side of the equation to remove it from the 4x-9 side.

    You now have 4x= 7x +21

    Subtract 7x from both sides

    -3x=21

    Divide both sides by -3

    x=-7

    Now check your work...

    4(-7)-9= -37

    7(-7) +12= -37

    x=-7 is Correct!

  5. 4x-9=7x+12

    4x-7x=12+9

    -3x=21

    -x=21/3

    -x=7

    x=-7

  6.                .-7.                   ******!

  7. 4x-9=7x+12

       +9     +9

    4x = 7x+21

    -4    -4

    x= 3x +21

        /3    /3

    x= -7
