My daughter is running cross country, what are the best running shoe to get her?

She is 13 and has had knee problems. She had to have a lateral release in January of this year. I want something that will give her the support she needs.

nike shoes are awful. they make thousands of poverty stricken people work for little money in harsh conditions.

I'd disagree go for a make thats not a FASHION make! So many people care about what there shoes look like but when running this does not matter in the slightest!

Go for a pair of shoes that suit you go to a local shoe seller who should have good knowledge of running styles ask him to observe you run and he should tell you the exact pair of shoes for you!

Remeber comfort and performance over STYLE!!!!!

I would go some nice Nike Air's they're very lite and well padded with good venting to keep you feet comfortable. Good Luck With cross country!

If you want to get whats best for your daughter...go to a specialty running store and they will fit her into proper shoes.  The staff is knowledgeable (they are runners themselves) and would recommend shoes according to her foot type, gait, under/over pronation. type of running (trail or road), etc.  Most brand name runners have some good shoes...but they are not all equal.  Some are designed for trails, road, heavy runners - lightweight runners, high, low arches, flat feet, wide, narrow, motion control for over pronaters, etc.  They may even recommend orthotics...give the staff as much information as you can, have your daughter wear her old runners so they can see the wear pattern, this gives them the idea how she walks/runs...

I been running for years and tried Nike, Mizunos, Brooks, New Balance, Asics, Sauconys and Reebok.  For me, personally - Brooks and Mizunos worked the best for me. My daughter, who is 14, occasionally runs, wears New Balance specially for flat feet and wears orthotics in other shoes.   So as you can see, not be the same for anyone.
