My nine year old daughter is sick!

She wasnt feeling good around 7ish (its almost 10 here) so I gave her a gravel and she went and laid in bed and fell asleep, around 9:15 my husband Jamie went up to check on her and she was throwing up on her bed (poor thing) so he got her into the washroom and she is still throwing up :(

Like maybe a 2min break or so in between each time she pukes.

We had her at the beach today and it was around 30 degrees she had sun screen on (45SPF) but got really burnt on her shoulders and ears :( Could this be why she is sick? Jamie checked her temperature and it hasnt gone up its normal so what is it? The start of the flu or just the sun burn?

Should we take her to the doctors in the morning?

Thanks

  1. Sounds like sun poisoning or heat exhaustion. I am not sure how to treat it but I know both can make you very ill.

  2. Sounds more like food poisoning to me. Did she eat anything that you guys didnt eat in the last 12 hours or so? That might be it...back to back being sick like that has only happened to me when I had food poisoning. A sunburn wouldn't cause violent vomiting like that. I'd keep her hydrated, water/ pedialite....if she's still throwing up like that in the morning I'd get her seen just to be safe.

  3. I would say she has a stomach virus or food poisoning.  If she gets a fever or has diarrhea than it would be one of the two that I mentioned...if she doesn't get better though you may want to have her checked out by a doctor.  It is probably not from the sun but it is always best to be on the safe side when it comes to children.  I live in Florida and my kids spend a lot of time in the sun-they have never experienced extreme vomiting from sun exposure.  The only time they get that sick is when they catch an awful 24 hr virus.  Just make sure she gets plenty of fluids and lots of rest.

  4. if she was in alot of pain from the sunburn that might make her vomit but i dont thin thats what this is. deffinatly take her to the doctor first thing in the morning or if she vomits anymore, the er asap. how she is okay!

    kay.

  5. Take her to the hospital.  Now would be good.  It sounds like she's either got sun poisoning or something else severe.  You don't vomit constantly for long periods of time without having something wrong with you.  If it is the flu then at least you had it checked.  But I've had sun poisoning before, you throw up a lot, don't have a fever and the sunburn starts turning a kind of purplish-red color and has a lot of heat to it.  It will start to blister in the morning.  If you don't get her some medical treatment it could become much worse.  So the hospital would be the thing to do.  NOW!

  6. My daughter got sun poisoning last time we were in Florida, despite sun screen, shade and lots of water. It just became too much and later that evening she threw up about 6 times. A very slight fever. We called the ER and they said if it lasted 7 hours and she couldn't keep anything down, to bring her in. She was better in about 3 hours... just not feeling good and tired the next day.

sometimes all that sun makes them very sick.
