With a change in schools this fall I have been dismayed to find out that my daughter will need to take the nnat test in order to get in to the GT program at her new school. She has been in the GT program for two years and has maintained honor roll each quarter during these two years. Apparently she was placed in GT due to the fact that there was open space in the class and she was borderline. Her teacher the previous year had recommended she be placed there if possible. She has NEVER passed the nnat before and I just don't know how to help her do so. I have not stressed about this in the past but I have no other way to keep her in GT now. Is there anyone who can suggest ways in which I can help her prepare. If you are going tell me to ensure she gets good rest and a nutritious breakfast than don't bother, I know this. I just need to help her think like they want her to for one stupid test.

Thank you for your help with this.

  1. Go to the school and talk with the teachers.  They may have aides that you can borrow to help her.

  2. Some of the question types that are on the NNAT, most children have never seen before - they are not the type of questions that kids study in school.

I have found one resource that has practice test books for the NNAT exam - www.MercerPublishing.com .  At a minimum, knowing the types of questions that are on the test should lower your daughter's test anxiety.

    Good luck.
