  1. there are strict guidelines and a thorough physical check-up done to those employed especially in a health environment. i doubt they would hire someone who may put patients at risk. if you're not comfortable with your ST, maybe you can go see someone else.

  2. if he is working, he is not contagious.....tell him to say it, not spray it!

  3. Polio virus is not excreted in saliva but in stools (faeces).

Someone who's already had polio will have a post-polio residual paralysis which will manifest as a shortened or deformed limb or limbs. However, it's highly unlikely that he still has the virus if he's been cleared to work in a hospital environment.

Your daughter could ask the Hospital Staff Health Service to put her mind at rest.

  4. Hi,

I doubt the speech therapist has active polio or he would be sick and in bed.

I am sending you the url that explains about polio and how it is transmitted and how long the period of transmission is, your daughter may be working with someone who has post polio (the after affects of having had polio) there is no virus with post polio.  It is a matter of the neurons in the spine dying off.

    Hope this helps
