My daughter needs a SIM card for NZ & Australia for me to call her from UK & her to make calls 2 friends.?

My daughter is having 4 weeks in New Zeland & 2 in Australia and we need a SIM card for her to call her friends back home as well as for me to call her from my mobile or land line on a regular basis for peace of mind. Any ideas on whats the best type of card please.

vodafone has sevice in nz, aussie and the uk. nz telecom is hard to roam with. vodafone is your best bet. a sim card costs around $35 nzd and you can buy $20 nzd and $50 nzd prepay cards. the sim already has $5 nzd on it but it won't go far. there is a vodafone store at auckland airport and a store or electronics (d**k smith, noel leaming, bond and bond etc)  outlet at most malls. credit can be brought at most convenance stores or diarys aswell as supermarkets. good luck. nz is a beautiful place.

While in NZ earlier this year, I rented a Vodafone SIM at the airport. It worked out a very reasonable cost and I would recommend them. I'm sure there is a similar thing in Australia.

She'll need to bring a cell phone that can hold a sim card. If she has a CDMA cellphone, then you'll need to talk to her network at home.

In New Zealand there are two different cell phone networks. Telecom and Vodafone. She wont be able to use Telecom, but she'll need to buy a Vodafone simcard. They cost about $35 and you get about $15 free credit.

In Australia she'll have to do the same. I'm not sure about the cost there. She can go with Vodafone, Telstra or Optus (they're the most common ones).

If I was you, I'd check about global roaming on the plan she is using at the moment. It might be a lot cheaper and will save her having to buy a new sim card that she will never use once she returns.

she will be able to get pre paid sim cards anywhere in australia and new zealand...telstra is the most popular...but the best thing is for her to get a cheap calling card and use that to talk with friends and leave the mobile number just for texts or emergency.honestly,the calling cards u get in oz are the best thing ever.with 5 aus dollars u can talk for as much as 5hrs....

Hi, in New Zealand she should get a Vodafone sim card. These can be bought at the airport when she arrives, or at a Vodafone outlet, or any electronics store such as Bond and Bond, Noel Leeming, d**k Smith etc.

Telecom doesn't work on sim cards so she'll have to get Vodafone.

Why not get international roaming altho a bit more costly. She will need to have this set up with her phone company before she leaves the UK. Otherwise Vodafone in NZ and Australia is the best solution. Vodafone Sim cards are relatively cheaper in Australia having just returned from there myself. In NZ they are $35 with $15 free credit. You can get a sim card in australia for as little as $10. These are some of the options available
