My daughter has just turned 7 and is a competetive cheerleader. She is working on her backhand spring and cann pull it, but she still relies on a spotter even though she does not need one. I am not sure how to give her the confidence that she needs to pull it on her own. She is a great cheerleader and has fantastic skill, but to continue growing in her sport she needs to pull her backhand spring...any ideas????

  1. 1. Bribe her (say if u do it by urself, no chores 2night)

    2. Tell the spotter to spot until she is about 2 go and then tell the spotter to "accidently" let go and show your daughter that she did it by herself!

HOPE THIS HELPS! GOOD LUCK TO YOUR DAUGHTER!!!

  2. When I was learning how to do a back handspring I had the same issue. My coach would put his arm behind my back, after a while he would just pretend like he was going to put his arm behind me and just touch my side, and eventually he tricked me and didn't do anything and I did it on my own.

  3. I started to spot my daughter with my arm first, then we went to a stick wrapped in a noodle, then finally just the foam noodle.  Eventually she realzied I wasn't even doing anything and did it on her own.  Good luck

  4. When i was in gymnastics my coach, once i was ready, would use a long stick instead of his arm. He would start off sticking it on my back as i did it then eventually he would touch my back and then dring the flip he would drop the end of the stick to the ground so that i would not feel it during the flip. Eventually i was doing backhand springs left right and center. Also lots of motivating and cheering on (no punn intended) by other cheerleaders and yourself.

  5. I know exactly what you're talking about.  My daughter is an all-star cheerleader too.  Doing a bhs without the spot was the toughest hurdle for her!  What did it for her:

The gym had a summer clinic that was 2-3 day per week class for conditioning and tumbling.  Doing that often got her over the hump and she was doing mutliple bhs's by the end of the summer... just in time for the first competitions!
