Question:

My daughter needs to remove 2 mature black walnut trees from her yard. Are they valuable for wood?

If so where would you try to sell them? She hopes to recoup some money to pay for the damage they've caused her sewer system.

  1. I would probably start with calling some local lumber mills or stores. If they can't help you they can probably point you in the direction of someone who can.


  2. VERY valuable! It'll pay for the damage and then some...you should do a lot of homework before selling it. It's used in everything from yachts to rifle stocks. It's a beautiful wood and I would love to have some!

  3. I would try your local Kijiji or Craig's List for selling.

    As noted, lots of woodworkers and other types would love to have some of this magnificent wood.

  4. Look in the yellow pages or on-line for a local Sawyer (someone with a wood milling operation).  I'm sure they would be interested.  I know I would, I have a bandsaw mill and would love to get my hands on a few nice walnut logs.  She can also have an arborist or tree service cut the tree down then hire a sawyer to cut the logs into boards, which are worth a LOT more.

  6. Yes , they are and do not give them away...........black walnut is a special hardwood.......If nothing else have a portable sawmill come in and saw it up and air dry it yourselfs and sell it to workworkers...........wonderful for furniture and cabinets...good luck.
