  1. I think so. At least if she grew up speaking her mother tongue. It is important to be literate in the first language one speaks. It makes language acquisition easier in the future for other languages.

  2. well as long as she keeps speaking the language i see no problem, but it wud be good to put on ur c.v or yeh good for higher ed. because seeing as she wud be good at it it cud contribute more for her UCAS points for uni

  3. Being bilingual actually has a positive effect!

"Bilingualism has positive effects on children's linguistic and educational development. When children continue to develop their abilities in two or more languages throughout their primary school years, they gain a deeper understanding of language and how to use it effectively. They have more practice in processing language, especially when they develop literacy in both, and they are able to compare and contrast the ways in which their two languages organize reality. More than 150 research studies conducted during the past 35 years strongly support what Goethe, the German philosopher, once said: The person who knows only one language does not truly know that language. The research suggests that bilingual children may also develop more flexibility in their thinking as a result of processing information through two different languages."

  4. I don't think it will necessarily affect her in her current studies . but in the future she may regret not being able to master a second language. Now a days it is important to be able to speak a second language in order to be more profitable.... I would definetly find a way to  keep her involved with the two languages. it is such a great opportunity. you should take advantage of it.....

  5. It is very important that she is bilingual with her native language and English. Try to not let her lose it. One family I know has the mother speak to the child in one language and the father in the other language. This helps her retain both languages. It does not confuse them as you think it might. Best wishes.
