Question:

My daughter scratches.... anyone else, any advice?

My nearly 7 month old daughter scratches me ALL the time.... I've cut her nails but I can only get them so short. Sometimes she'll grab up at my face while she's feeding or playing and other times if we are sitting quietly she'll scratch my arm like she's picking at something.

Does anyone else have this problem? I've tried taking her arm away and saying "no" but she just goes straight back and it really hurts...she's so strong.

Any other suggestions?

  1. My daughter does the exact same thing! it seems like, no matter how often you cut their nails, it doesnt make a difference. My daughter pinches a lot too. She is 10 months old, and the only thing that I do is like you, tell her NO. Sometimes, if I catch her in the scratch, ill smack her hand and say no, that way, she knows what she did wrong.

Sadly, this is a daily thing with my daughter, so she hasnt grown out of it yet. Wait til your daughter starts pinching... if she hasnt started already. It hurts so much. Its amazing how these beautiful, cuddly, tiny, innocent babies are so strong!!!

  2. Oh goodness, my 4 month old does this too... It irritates me, but I just kind of ignore it, there's not much I really know to do.

Just saying, I know what you're going through!

  3. yeah i have a 5 month old she

does the same thing and i cut them every 2 days

it would be good to put there socks on there

hands because the mittens are prob to small now

that's really the only thing we can do

    hope this helps

    good luck

  4. Mine did that too.  I used to just hold his free arm during a feeding so he couldn't scratch me.  Someone suggested putting socks on their hands, that does work.  I guess they just grow out of it, because mine doesn't do it anymore. It was probably around 10 months or so, I guess that he stopped.

  5. I just keep cutting my son's nails and I always tell him he can't do that it is hard though because they are still young and still trying to use there hands for everything.

  6. My almost 7 month old is the same. I clip his nails every two to three days and it still hurts. Also, at this age they figure out what everything else is by grabbing and trying to eat everything. It's just a phase a will pass.
