My daughter will be one is 5 mos and i want to plan for her first birthday party now! LOL

I'm making a slide show of pictures for our son's first birthday party. The slide show is all our pictures from his first year (well not all but a ton) with music in the background. I'll put it on a dvd and play it during his first birthday...I'm also making copies for all his grandparents and great grandparents. I think it'll be neat to have playing at the party and to have for later (like when my son gets married or has a child of his own)

can't really top the slideshow, but I have a good gift idea for her, and since you have 5 more months, you can save up a bit for it.

We got my daughter her own chair from Pottery Barn Kids.  Actually, it is a favorite 1st birthday gift for many of my family and friends!!  The chair is fantastic, and it lasts forever.  I bought one for my nephew on his first birthday...he just turned 4, and it is as good as new.

My daughter loves having her own place.  She *reads* her books in the chair, and watching her morning cartoon.

Another "keepsake" type idea.  Get an 8*10 picture mat to mat a 5*7 picture in white.  Have guests write a little message to the birthday girl.  Frame a cute picture of her eating her first birthday cake

On my daughter's first birthday I had all our family members write her a short card for her 18th birthday of things they wished for her, hoped she would accomplish, etc.  I saved them all and on her 18th birthday she will get to read all the things her family wanted for her.

I have also heard about people all bringing children's books and writing something nice in the front for her to keep for her kids hopefully.

I have seen some people with these gorgeous special birthday hats...google image "vintage birthday hat" they are handmade and you can do them yourself or buy them on sites like ETSY...if you dont know Etsy then visit it and put Birthday HAt into their search engine. SO cute!

The best idea is to keep it very low keyed.  First of all she is not going to remember it and secondly baby's tend to get cranky with all the fuss and fallderall, they don't understand why people are fawning over them and they don't enjoy their day.  Save the big bash for later on when the child can remember and participate in the celebration since it is about the child to begin with.  Putting on a show now it is only going to be about you.
