  1. yes

  2. If she dumped her daughter off with you and abandoned her, then there is something about abandonment that can allow the child to be deemed adoptable. If your daughter is willing to sign her rights away, then the child will be adoptable. You will have to get a lawyer either way because there is legal paperwork that will need to be done and it will have to be filed for in court.

  3. YES!!      My sister just did this to my parents.  They had to get a lawyer, it is easier if she would just sign the baby over to you, but you can also petition for legal guardianship ( this is what my parents are doing)  It is taking them 45 days to close on the matter then have a court date to make it legal.

Hope for the best for you - I know it has to be stressful!

  4. Yeah, you can.

Which is another reason I wont allow overnight stays for my daughters other side of the family. Last thing I need is for them to have her, take her to where ever you need to go, and say "Look, she left her baby with me, she's a bad parent, I want coustady" AH! h**l no. Visitation only with me present, thank you very much.

  5. Most states allow for custody to a grandparent. If the situation is adversarial you will probably have to claim abandonment by the mother. Also in all states a child cannot be adopted without permission (or an adversarial court process) of both parents (if both are still alive) so if there is a birth father alive you should be aware that you can't adopt the child without his permission. If you get it done without him and he finds out about it later, you may find yourself in court defending yourself against him and his legal claim of paternity. Best advice....seek legal advice before doing anything.

  6. Yes, You can go to a court mediator and have the papers signed together if she is willing to do this.  The papers will be notarized by the courts and you will receive the order within 2 weeks.

If shes not willing to sign the papers like this then you can petition the courts for custody.

The other thing you can do which is a little more devious, you can have her write a letter to you saying that she is putting her child in your care as she can't do it on her own.  You can tell her it is for if anything should happen medically.  Then take the letter to the court t start the petition as leverage.

My cousin did this and had full custody of her niece in a month.

    hope this helps

  7. Yes you can after a certain amount of time has passed.  My best advice would be to contact a lawyer too see what the lawsa are in your state.  Good luck :)
