hello. i am a little confused. my dentist told me that smoking would keep the implant from bonding to the gum. then i've read where it says smoking makes the healing process slower. i just wondered what other people have to say about smoking and dental implant surgery.

  1. Smoking is bad for health in general.

  2. smoking impairs the body's natural healing process. Best to steer clear of the smokies until you've healed

  3. Smoking does delay healing time which could result in the tissue not adhering to the implant. You should really quit smoking if you want your implant to be successful! There are a number of oral surgeons who think twice about placing implants if the patient smokes because the failure rate increases dramatically.

  4. smoking constricts your blood vessels, ergo less blood- less nutrients, less healing
