My desktop doesn't show my available wireless network, or any available wireless networks for that matter...?

I just bought a wireless router & connected it to my cable modem. The wireless utility on my laptop shows all of the available wireless networks in range and I am able to connect and use my new wireless network just fine... However my desktop wireless utility doesn't show any wireless networks at all. I've done all of the troubleshooting & ensured that the wireless is enabled... I just can't figure it out! Any help would be appreciated. It's a HP Media Center PC M767 4N

  1. Obvious question, does your desktop come with a wireless card?  You know it would be much easier on you if you just purchased a wireless USB.  If you did this all you need to do is plug it into the desktop's USB port and it would detect your wireless router automatically.  Problem solved.  Plus it's very inexpensive, you can pick wireless USB's up at Radio Shack, Fry's, Best Buy ect... for under $20 dollars.

  2. Don't turn on the modem and router on together, modem first, wait for it to load then turn on the router, when you launch utility config it takes time to find the network you will not see the router first time, if it still doesn't show, restart your comp.

And dont forget the router connection set-up wants to be on DHCP (Automatic ip config) because your ip changes for security reasons unless you subscribe for a static ip from your broadband supplier

  3. Hello,

I am willing to help you. Do you have a wireless adapter in your desktop? Can you state the model number of your wireless adapter in your desktop?

If the wireless utility in the desktop does not show up, it is either the wireless adapter is not properly installed or the desktop does not have any wireless adapter.

Please take note that the desktop does not have a ready wireless adapter installed in it not like the laptop. You still need to buy a wireless adapter for it.

    Take care.

  4. the desktop must be out of range.....the wireless card in the desktop could be burnt out
